Universal Health Care seems to be a hotly debated topic each time the Health Care Reform in the United States is discussed.
Those who have health an individual responsibility will argue, does not want a system that they contribute taxes to our fellow citizens who do not act responsibly to protect and promote their own health needs to support. They say they want the freedom to choose their own doctors and treatments, and suggest that the government can not know what is best for them. These people argue that maintaining the current system with improvements for better insurance protection for citizens, which is to remain uninsured or underinsured for their medical needs, the only reform that is needed.
Those who believe that health care is an individual right to a system of universal health care, arguing that every citizen deserves appropriate care at the right time and the support is the responsibility of government to protect its citizens, including themselves.
Two opposing arguments from two opposing ideologies. Both are good arguments, but no one can deny the argument to support or implement universal health care. The question must be resolved by an ethical framework.
An examination of ethical issues in health reform would be an examination of the arguments very different from those already presented. Ethical questions would focus on moral rights. The discussion will first focus is not “what is best for me?” but “How should we as a society to act in such a way that our actions are morally right?”
Ethics refers to the determination of right and wrong in the way people interact with each other. Ethical decision-making health care reform, it would require people to act in light of our relationship to each other not by our own interests.
The review of certain decisions by common ethical theories can provide a basis for a different perspective than the one that deals exclusively with the rights and freedoms.
The ethical decision making requires a certain answer questions to determine whether the planned actions are good or morally correct. Here are some questions that could be used in ethical decision-making health care reform.
What steps to bring the most good, most people?
What measures is in itself a good deed and help us to fulfill our responsibilities, obligations and responsibilities to each other?
What measures are shows in themselves, care and concern for all citizens?
Since the answer to all these questions, the general health care can still do the right thing to be considered.
The United States is in a favorable position when it comes to the reform of health. They are the only developed country without national health care system in place for all citizens. You have the option from the mistakes of other countries, the way of universal health care have been pursued to learn. You have the option of a system that sparkle like a jewel in the crown of universal health care systems everywhere design.
However, every ethical decision making is structured around values. Be adopted for universal health care for all citizens of the United States, they first need to agree on the collective value of justice and fairness and the objective of fulfilling their collective responsibility to hug each other while preserving the rights and freedoms. This could be the most difficult obstacle of all.
