The American Medical Association developed the system of medical coding is used in the United States. The codes are used to identify the diagnosis from a doctor, and asked the treatment. These standard codes help to advise their patients medical diagnosis and helps health insurers by reimbursing the costs of health care. Medical coding systems that are currently in use:
CPT: These codes are known as the current procedural terminology codes and are used to any kind of service that a medical facility can offer a patient to describe. The health service uses the list of contributors to submit health care reimbursement. Patients can also be used for the services to check they made.
HCPCS: Healthcare Common Procedure Coding codes used by Medicare. The Level 1 HCPCS codes are the same CPT codes. Level II codes are used for all services related to health, to identify outside of healthcare institutions, such as rescue services or medical equipment was provided. HCPCS Level II codes are codes that were not included in the CPT codes.
ICD: International Classification of Diseases codes are available in the United States by the CDC and internationally by the World Health Organization. These codes are constantly changing over time and end up in medical records of patients and death certificates.
ICF: These codes have been added recently, the medical coding and are used to describe the treatment of patients with disabilities “and how she is able to function in their environment, refer to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health..
DRG: These codes are used to form groups of diagnostic related group and there are currently approximately 500 groups. Diagnosis, treatment, age and other criteria are used for patients in the group with the same diagnosis, treatment, etc. Medicare DRG codes on the patient’s file for a refund.
